Softwood Gate
Douglas Fir

Douglas Fir (Softwood) Douglas Fir timber is a slow grown kiln dried softwood timber sourced from North America, which carries a durable classification giving good longevity and very minimal movement that requires no treatment due to the density of grain. This is a considerably stable softwood timber to use in the construction of gates and performs considerably better than many other softwood gates such as Scandinavian Scots Pine and is extremely well suited to more exposed locations. Douglas Fir has a superb graining pattern within the timber which will naturally weather down over a period of time to a silver grey colour, but it is also an ideal timber to apply paint, wood stains and oils to before installation. Our Douglas Fir gate posts are produced from European woodlands rather than North America, giving a different graining pattern, but again these timbers have a natural lasting quality and are extremely stable with minimal shaking. All Douglas Fir timbers are either PEFC or FSC certified upon request and produced from sustainable sources.
